Today I had a coke with my eggs for breakfast, cause it was birthday, and on my birthday, I DO WHAT I WANT.
It wasn't good.
I saw Star Trek on Tuesday night, some sort of sneak preview that I stumbled onto tickets for. It had a lot of those attention-seeking nerds who always feel the need to prove how big a fan they are (for instance, shooting both hands up into the air to throw the Vulcan salute whenever Spock did it.) Also, is it not a faux pas to wear a Star Wars shirt to a Star Trek fan?
Crowd aside, I like the movie.
NO SPOILERS I SWEAR! It wasn't any sort of revelatory, amazing story, but it did a great job at what it set out to do: setting up back stories and personalities for characters we will like. Visually, it was great, too. Comparing it to the relatively recent cgi disasters of the recent Star Wars movie is almost embarrassing. It was funny and referenced the originals just enough to be fun but not derivative. However, I do wonder if this is to classic tv show fans like the Star Wars prequels were to me: a canon-destroying, nonsensical, idiotic mess. I'd like to think not because the people at my screening at least really liked it.
I will say, i've never been too big a star trek fan, for no reason other than it didn't grab me as much as Star Wars did. There's a lot of potential in this world, though.
I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND THE KIRK/SPOCK SHIPPINESS NOW.

They even come with an array of ready-made ship names. Highlights include: Kork, Spork, or the get-down-to-business Kock. However, I will say I am also a fan of the canon ship they are setting up.
So yeah, that'll be all for now. Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes!
